1 Day Kampala City Tour

Kampala-City2-750x440(1)

Overview

Overview

Kampala is a vibrant city of approximately two million people by day and 1 million people by night. The city is on twenty-seven hills but was originally built on seven hills just like Rome. The hills were of historical, colonial, and religious importance. Kampala is a generally safe city with no hassle directed to tourists but like any major city, you are advised to take care of your belongings.

The city tour takes you to the historical, religious, and cultural sites as well as meeting with everyday Ugandans as they go about the daily errands of running all kinds of micro business to support their families. The Original seven hills’ of Kampala are Makerere hill – where Makerere University is located, Kololo Hill – the colonial administrative hill, Rubaga Hill – the home to Catholic church Cathedral, Namirembe Hill – home to Anglican church Cathedral; Mengo Hill – Kabaka’s administration center, Mbuya Hill- location of the biggest army barracks and Kibuli Hill- the Islam center.

On this Kampala city tour, you will visit some of the cultural, religious and historical sites which include; Uganda Museum, National Theater, Craft Villages, Owino Market (East Africa’s biggest flea market), Nakasero market, Old Taxi Park, Kabaka’s Lake (biggest man-made lake in East Africa), Gadhafi National Mosque, Baha’i Temple – only temple of Baha’i Faith in Africa, Uganda martyr’s shrine, Kasubi tombs – a UNESCO world heritage site.

It is impossible to visit all the sites in one day so we will guide you to choose the sites of most interests to you depending on the distance between them and possibilities of traffic jam in the city. You can alternatively take a Kampala walking safari where you will be able to mingle with the people as they go about their daily chores of eking a living for themselves and that of their families and visit the sites nearest to the city  center.

Kampala is known as the city that never goes to sleep and the capital of hanging out in East Africa. You can request for a Kampala city night tour to some of the hottest and happiest night spots in and around Kampala. You will need to have your dancing shoes on to shake throughout the night as you check out different Kampala night spots. Along the dancing, be sure to taste some of Uganda’s street food which is readily available in certain designated areas in the city. You can request this from your tour guide but remember to be cautious.
